About live & pray

Live and Pray is a common phrase, shared among Coptic faithful following a liturgical service in the church. For instance, after the Divine Liturgy, it is customary for one to say to another ‘ May you live and pray’ (ta3esh wet sal-e). This is a beautiful custom in which the faithful encourage each other to continue prayer throughout their life, both repeating what they just participated in, and extend this prayer throughout their life. Coptic Christians after a service do not customarily say ‘that was a lovely service, thank you’, rather, they encourage each other to continue praying.

Such little nuances, reveal an aspect of the beauty of the Coptic Orthodox Christian heritage that is ingrained in the way in which the faithful live out their lives. The authors of this blog are inspired by this phrase and created this blog to record and share some thoughts and reflections as we try to make it through life one day at a time.
